Thanksgiving 2009
With Thanksgiving just a day away I wanted to stop and think about some of the things I am thankful for. I decided to write them down and share them on my blog as well. So – here we go.
First – here is the list of really BIG / SERIOUS things that I am very thankful for:
- My wife: Holly is an absolutely wonderful wife. She is a blessing in every sense of the word. I am so thankful to have someone so special to share my life with. I love you sweetie!
- My kids: Each day Luke and Avery make me see life differently. A good friend told me before we had kids that the way you love your kids is just “different” than the way you love anyone else. That is so true.
- My family: I am so thankful for ALL of my family (immediate and extended). I could not possibly be more blessed in this area of my life.
- My work: I am thankful for work that is interesting. I am thankful for all of the nice people who I get to interact with. The line between clients and friends is very blurry and I like that a lot. As far as I am concerned, my clients are my friends. Why have it any other way – after all think how much time you spend with the people you work with… Why not work with people you like? I am blessed to be able to do so. I am also thankful that my work provides more income than my family needs to survive. For so many people just surviving is a struggle. I have been blessed to have the opportunity to work and earn more than enough material resources to provide for my family.
- Health: In the last few years I have had several people I care a lot about either die, or have major health problems. I am thankful that I don’t have any major problems in this area. I am especially thankful this year for the continued good health and development of my little niece Reagan Winslow. When she was born a few short months ago statistically she did not have a good chance of survival, yet alone thriving. Today she is doing great!
- America: I am thankful to live in America. The freedoms we are guaranteed in the Constitution make this a wonderful place to live. Despite all of the bad news, and 24×7 shows on TV with people fighting (each side proclaiming that the other is destroying America) we live in an absolutely wonderful country and I am very very thankful for that. We don’t all need to agree on everything in order for this to be a great country. Our freedoms allow us to all have differing beliefs, and exercise them in reasonable ways without harming each other. While their are things that concern me for our country I choose to believe that Americas best days are ahead!
- Jesus Christ: I am thankful to be a follower of Jesus Christ. I am so thankful that two thousand years ago God saw fit to send his Son to die for us so that we might be forgiven. The love and teachings of Christ Jesus have impacted my life in countless ways. If there is one thing in my life that has served as a foundation for all of the other things I am Thankful for it is my relationship with Jesus.
Now – here are some smaller things that I am thankful for:
- Windows 7: While XP was great, Windows 7 is even better. Thank goodness that I will not need to talk anyone else out of buying a PC with Vista on it.
- My SeaDoo: Yes – I am thankful for for my 17 year old SeaDoo. I purchased it along with my cousin and brother for $1,800 a couple of years ago. Apparently, I liked it more than they did because now I am the sole owner. It makes me happy and gives me something to look forward to in the summer.
- Cold weather: I LIKE cold weather. So while the rest of you groan and complain, I am happy for it.
- My Driod: Man do I ever love this phone. I have a slight smart phone addiction, and this is absolutely the best one I have ever had. Thanks Motorolla and Verizon. Now I can have a “map for that” and an “app for that”.
- Books (non-fiction): They are like “upgrades” for your brain. Being a “learner” I read about a lot of different stuff. This keeps me entertained.
- Coffee: Recently I have been working hard to lose some weight. While lots of the other things I used to enjoy consuming have had to go bye bye (including: Biscuits, apple fritters, and nearly all cheese); I can still have my coffee and that makes me happy each and every morning.
- Facebook: What a great tool to keep in touch with people who it would otherwise be very difficult to keep in touch with.
I hope all of you have a wonderful Thanksgiving!
David
